Health insurance
Portugal has a state-operated healthcare system, the “Serviço Nacional de Saúde (SNS)”, it functions in a similarly to the UK’s NHS system. If you are not familiar with the system it can be confusing, the system provides a level of care for locals. While many expats moving to Portugal are eligible for treatment on the SNS others are not. Many internationals choose private health insurance when moving to Portugal, you would then have access to both private and public health resources.
There are plenty of options when it comes to getting private health insurance in Portugal. Many of the global insurance provider companies work in Portugal and you can choose based on price, level of treatment or preference.
